Where and When?

Our SUP club nights take place at different locations on Thursday evenings.

We meet from  17.30-18:00 to prepare the kit and aim get on the water by 18.00 and paddle until 20.00.

How far do we paddle?

This depends on the weather conditions and the route that we take. In stronger winds we would usually opt for a more sheltered route along the Ely and in calmer conditions head out into the bay.

This is a social club paddle where we cater for all abilities.

Do I need to have my own board to paddle with the SUP club?

You don’t need to have your own board to paddle with us on Sup nights, we have an extensive range of boards  available for you to hire on the evening for £10 per session.

What do I wear?

It does tend to get quite warm paddling so we would advise a summer wetsuit just make sure that it doesn’t restrict your movement in your upper body.

During the summer months you can wear  shorts and t shirt but check the weather first

During the winter months we will advice when you need a wetsuit (we don’t provide these sorry but can point you on where to get one at a reasonable price)

* You are required to wear footwear during the sessions. We have wetsuit shoes available to buy from Puravida Boardriders – trainers would be adequate.

Equipment hire

We have joined up with Puravida Boardriders for our SUP hire. They are the largest stockists for Sup, Surf and Windsurf supplies in South Wales and have an impressive range of current demo boards in stock from all the leading brands.

If you are looking at trying out some different styles of boards this also is a great opportunity from inflatable allround sups to carbon race boards and as a SUP member you are entitled to discount on everything instore!

How much paddling do I need to have done?

To join our club nights we do require that you have had prior experience paddling and are able to paddle short distances standing up- having completed an intro to SUP course.

During the paddles you will be guided by qualified instructors who will be offering tips and advice throughout the sessions.

How many spaces are there?

For each session we can take a maximum of 16 members. All booking must be done through the online booking system and works on a first come basis.

This number may vary depending on instructor availability.

What happens if the session is cancelled?

Though paddle boarding is a very versatile sport and we can do it in most conditions, occasionally we will have to cancel sessions particularly around the winter months due to storms and adverse conditions. If you have booked on one of these dates your money will be fully reimbursed or we can transfer you to another session

Do I need previous water sports experience?

No previous experience is necessary though with experience you may find it easier to pick up the basics.

What if I can't swim?

Like any sport on or in the water we recommend that you can swim however you will be with a qualified instructor and wearing safety floatation devices should you fall in.

Please make sure that you inform your instructor with regards to your swimming ability before the session.

What qualifications do the instructors hold?

All instructors are either WSA (Water Skills Academy) or BSUPA (British Stand Up Paddle Association qualified. All instructors abide by the standards of the Sup School operating procedures.

How far in advance can I book?

You can book dates that are available on the calendar.

Do you offer one to one sessions?

Can I book a private session with a group of friends?

Yes we offer group sessions for a minimum of 4 people at the Cardiff White Water centre or Barry. Please contact us for more information.


How old do I need to be to join SUP club?

At present we can only cater for adults over 18’s.
