As part of our regular club paddle on 31st May, we have teamed up with Penarth View and will be doing a litter pick on the water in association with The Volvo Ocean Race. This is to raise awareness of reducing single plastic use!
The Volvo Ocean Race is the worlds largest offshore race, setting off from Alicante, Spain the race will be visiting 12 cities, touching six continents – and for the first time in its history, the race will stop in Cardiff, Wales from 27 May to 10 June 2018!
As this extraordinary event has traveled the world it has been spreading a very important message along its way. With a strong sustainability message, the Volvo Ocean Race is raising awareness of single-use plastics and particularly the impact that they are having on our oceans. There are seven teams involved in the race one of which is a United nations team named Turn The Tide on Plastic.
To support the work that they are doing we will be putting on a special club event on the 31st where we will be heading out with Penarth View and some of the people involved in the Ocean race to do an on-water litter pick. The Volvo Ocean Race will be supplying a boat which will be following us along the route.
If you would like to join us on the water and get involved with this event follow the link below to book on online.
We will be meeting at Channel View Leisure Centre at 18:15 on Thursday 31st May. The cost is £5 if you have your own equipment or £15 if you need to hire a board for the session.
We aim to be on the water by 18:30 and will be out until around 20:00.
As with our club paddles, you must have completed an intro to SUP course or equivalent or be competent paddling short distances.
This is a great opportunity to see Cardiff from a new perspective whilst doing something positive for the water that we love!
